Since opening one of the most prestigious Universities in Scotland it has gone from strength to strength. Selling just a normal pizza base with no branding they were struggling with the offer and came to TUGO to see how we could help.
Our friendly account manager met with the catering manager to understand why her offer was not working and how we could meet her requirements.
Firstly we looked at the slice offer she currently had and recommended a quality high street like for like offer and implemented our Frersh dough product in 10’’ whole pizzas, this was partly because after speaking with the catering manager we understood a lot more about the competitors and what the students seemed to be purchasing from them.
We also set the unit out with full branding and equipment such as our specifically designed Pizza ovens to allow a fresh dough product to be cooked in under 4 minutes in front of the customer.
Along with having this equipment at the front of house to provide live theatre cooking we also enticed customers with promotional deals providing extras and drinks to satisfy the client.
Within weeks of launching the TUGO pizza brand the students clearly wanted the product as sales rose from a minimal amount of portions up to 80 whole pizzas a day.
This provided the catering manager with a hot meal offer that was taking 33% of her main meal sales but by selling a whole pizza rather than a slice offer her clients spend increased and as a result of using a fresh dough product her GP rose from a low 40% to above 60%.
The unit is a great example of the hard work TUGO go into recommending the right product and understanding our customers’ needs and what they are up against with regards to competitors and local surroundings.
At present we are currently going through a re-firb with the unit to re-brand the counter, extra equipment has gone out to site FOC as they are now serving 200 pizzas a day a great performance considering the early days when they struggled to sell a few slices.
